Commonwealth Games: Day Three gold medal round-up

Adam Peaty completed a four-year sweep of major titles after winning the men's 100m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old Olympic, world and European champion defended the title he won at Glasgow 2014, clocking 58.84 seconds, with James Wilby taking silver for an English one-two in the pool.

England's gymnasts also enjoyed success on Saturday morning, with Nile Wilson winning his second gold medal of the Games in the men's all-around final, and team-mate James Hall also taking silver.

Just one-fortieth of a point split Wilson, Hall and Cypriot Marios Georgiou going into the final high bar apparatus, and the Olympic bronze medallist kept his nerve to score 15.1 and take the title.

Wilson said: "It's incredible for it to come down to the wire with the three of us all in the mix.

"I smiled my way through it and hit the bar routine I knew I could. It's a great feeling to have another Commonwealth Games gold medal round my neck."

In the velodrome, world champion Elinor Barker won Wales' first cycling title on the Gold Coast after winning the women's points race ahead of Scotland's Katie Archibald.

Meanwhile, Scottish duo Neil Fachie and Matt Rotherham won gold in the men's B&VI sprint final, with James Ball and Peter Mitchell taking silver for Wales.

Reigning Commonwealth champions Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott successfully defended their title in the Women's B&VI 1000m time trial final.

The English pair set a new world record time of 1:04.623 to take gold, with Scotland's Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston winning bronze.

Joe Townsend and Jade Jones also won gold for England in the men's and women's Para-triathlon.

Townsend overtook Australia duo Bill Chaffey and Nic Beveridge after a crash in the closing stages to win the men's race, while Jones also fended off Australian opposition to claim gold in the women's event.

England triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Jess Learmonth and Vicky Holland had to settle for silver in the mixed team relay after Australia took gold in front of their home support.
